Big day tomorrow. I will be visiting other apartment commuities to find out their views on painting, and changing light fixtures. The first thing that I did when I moved into the new apartment was to change out all the light fixtures. I was careful to put the old ones in a box to be replaced once it was time for me to move. It is amazing how different it can make the apartment feel, just by changing out the lights in key areas. Here are two pictures of my apartment. There was an updated light fixture in the dining room, which looked nice. But, in the second photo, you can see how different the area looks just by changing it out. I would like to caution anyone working around electricity, to follow all safety guidelines when changing out fixtures. You might even consider hiring a licensed electrician to do the job.

Today was a busy day of Thrift Stores and Flea Markets. These two places are the best for finding rare art, bookcase fillers, and furniture pieces. I believe mixing the old with the new creates a warm, cozy feeling. It is also important to know where to shop when a client has a special request. When working with a budget, and a specific time, knowing where to shop is crucial. Over the next few months, I plan on covering many different aspects of design. The two areas I would like to concentrate on is Home Staging, and Home Redesign. Both involve designing a home catered to a specific group. Home staging is designing a home through the eyes of the buyer while on the market. I will teach you how to de-clutter your home, and de-personalize the space so the new home owner can picture themselves living there. Home redesign is working with the home owner, using existing furniture and accessories, and bringing a new life to the room. This is typically accomplished by taking everything out of the room and evaluating the space. Sometimes clients just need alittle help implementing a design idea.

Introduction

My name is Terry. I recently started up a new business venture, Up a Notch Staging and Redesign. For years, I have wanted to help people with getting their home ready to sale. It can be difficult for some people to stand back and look at their home through a buyers eyes. But, to my surprise, I have stumbled onto a more interesting subject. Apartment living made to feel like home. After owning a home for the past few years, I now find myself renting again. I believe that the current economic situation has forced many families and individuals to embark into the renting world again. There are many out there that have decided to rent over the headache of home ownership. Both of which have their own pros and cons. The one con with renting is the limitations with changes that can me made. I have created this blog to help fellow renters with questions and concerns about decorating apartments and condos. Through careful furniture placement, space saving techniques, and use of accessories, you can make any space feel like home. Looking forward to helping you take your space, Up a Notch.
